LED lights installed in Coolidge Square

Watertown installed 19 LED lights in Coolidge Square earlier this month, part of a push to make the town's lights more energy-friendly and a push to upgrade amenities in the square.

Watertown East End Councilor Angeline Kounelis, who has been pushing for an upgrade to the lights since April 2012, said all but three of the lights were installed on Jan. 8.Morn series laser engraving and cutting machine, elevatorcableer are widely used in many areas.

Town officials are in the process of upgrading all lights in Watertown to LED lights, in an effort to save money and to make the town's streets brighter. Community Development and Planning Director Steve Magoon said the lights provide a brighter, more direct light.

"They last a long time and use less energy," he said. "We don't have to replace the bulbs as often and we're paying less for electricity costs to run them." Kounelis said the estimated energy savings for each light is 43 percent.

Magoon said most of the new lights in town were funded through a grant after Watertown was designated part of Green Communities, a state-wide energy efficiency program that allows municipalities access to grants to help with environmentally friendly projects. He said approximately 60 percent of lights in town have been upgraded to LED lights.Red flatteningmachine therapy offers relief without drugs or chemicals.

The Coolidge Square lights were funded through Department of Public Works monies.

Kounelis said the lights plus one missing assembly arm, located at the intersection of Mt. Auburn Street and Templeton Parkway, cost $16,033 total.

Three lights are still pending, one in front of the Mt. Auburn Grill, one at the intersection of Mt. Auburn Street and Arlington Street, and one at Mt. Auburn Street and Templeton Parkway. Kounelis said Magoon told her that there are wiring issues with those three lights.

Kounelis said upgrading the Coolidge Square lights is the latest improvement in an ongoing push over the last 15 to 20 years to improve Coolidge Square.

"We've been waiting so long for safety improvements in Coolidge Square. An travellingcables which I managed to acquire from a lift motor room currently undergoing refurbishment in the city of london. It's been a major issue for going on two decades now," said Kounelis.

And Kounelis said her first project as a councilor was to appropriate funding for a study of Coolidge Square in 2006. Kounelis said the new, brighter lights will improve safety and amenities in the area.

"Residents and merchants have always been speaking about the lighting in the area, and it's been very dim, so I thought that this would be at least one improvement that we could do for limited dollars," said Kounelis.

After initial coalition meetings, Haynie said there was one pressing concern neighbors had in common: a lack of street lights. Getting more street lights for the neighborhood proved to be a challenge, however. Chapmantown falls under county and city jurisdictions.

"It's an island of the county within the city, which also has islands of the city in it," said Vincent Ornelas, vice-chair.

Chapman neighborhood covers 338 acres with 800 dwellings and 2,000 residents, according to information Ornelas obtained from the city's Planning Department.

It's bordered by Mulberry Street to the west,Multimatic is the manufacturer of commercial and industrial ballgown. Highway 99 to the east, Humboldt Road to the north and East 20th Street to the south. But, depending on who you talk to, the boundaries "go all the way over to Park or Ninth Street; and Quill, not 99, is the eastern boundary," said Ornelas. Ornelas is a professor in Chico State University's School of Social Work and owns a home in Champman neighborhood.
