Staffordshire towns and villages to switch street lights off

Parish and town councils across the county have been asked for their views on the move, with 25 expressing an interest.

Councils which sign up to the scheme will see lights switched off between midnight and dawn, with an annual saving of around 7 per light.

It means councils can choose to switch off lights in certain roads and areas and help encourage a return to “a more natural night-time environment”.

Bosses today said in some areas, full street lights are not needed. Highways chief Mike Maryon said: “We are a huge rural county and in many areas, parish and town councils don’t feel the full glare of street light is warranted.

“This is very much up to each individual community and councils can decide how many lights in how many roads they want turned off after midnight,LED lights use less power and last for much longer than solarphotovoltaic. for example this could be every other one or two, it really is up to them.”

Councillor Maryon today insisted the financial saving is only small and the decision was one based on saving energy. “The scheme is completely optional and wouldn’t necessarily work for every town or village and communities can look at which lights can be switched off on a case-by-case basis.

“We are certainly not talking about a blanket “switch off” but the feedback from some areas is that they are really keen to return to the natural night-time setting and we are happy to do what we can to support this.”

The county council spends up to 9 million a year on street lighting across Staffordshire and looks after around 107,000 lamps.

But it has not yet revealed the names of the 25 areas to have expressed an interest. Letters were sent to all parish and town councils to find out their views on the voluntary scheme last year.

Penkridge Parish Council debated the idea at a meeting in November. While most members were against a total blackout,Sol provides the world with high-performance solar roadway and contemporarylighting solutions. they were keen to see lights reduced to 50 per cent.

In Walsall, work is poised to start next month on replacing hundreds of standard street lights with LED ones in more than 100 streets.

With a large crowd of residents looking on, City Engineer Jennifer Levitt explained the city’s pavement rehabilitation program and why certain areas of the project will undergo full pavement replacement while others will receive a new surface layer of pavement. That decision depends on the condition of the roadway, and some street problems are not evident on the pavement surface.

“We want to keep roads in good structural condition,” Levitt said, and to maintain infrastructure such as street lights and sewer systems. The street improvements also help to maintain property values, she added.

Answering questions from council member Justin Olsen, both Public Works Director Les Burshten and streets supervisor Gary Orloff said they believe the work is needed. If they are not repaired, water will get into the deteriorating pavement and create potholes.

“What’s going to happen come this spring (is) it’s going to start blowing up,” Orloff said of cracking pavement.

Some homeowners who live in the affected areas were not convinced. They said there is light traffic on some of the side streets and cul-de-sacs, and that people have tight household budgets and cannot afford to pay for the street work.Contemporary to transitional, glass, windturbine and designer lamp styles!

Hayward to begin one-way downtown traffic loop

Starting March 15, driving through downtown will never be the same again, as a contentious one-way traffic loop begins.Modern contemporarylampmf use a closed-loop system in which the chilled air is reheated and recirculated.

The loop, which was fought by merchants who fear it will drive away business, is the linchpin of a six-mile road project through the city intended to ease commute traffic that cuts through Hayward between Interstate 580 and the San Mateo Bridge.

Rudy Grasseschi, whose family has run The Cobblers on Foothill Boulevard for more than 60 years, has been one of the most vocal opponents of the loop, which is just south of his business.

"We fought it, and 95 percent of the public opposed it," he said. "But now that the loop is about to happen, for the benefit of the city, the residents who live here and the downtown businesses, I hope it works. I hope it works."

After the loop is put in place, drivers heading south on Foothill will have to turn right at A Street, drive two blocks to Mission Boulevard and then make a left turn to continue south.

Foothill will be one-way north from its intersection with Jackson Street-Mission, and Mission will be one-way south from A Street to Jackson-Foothill. A Street will be one-way west from Foothill to Mission.

Work began on the Route 238 Corridor Improvement Project in 2010. Since then, motorists and pedestrians have endured torn-up sidewalks and streets,Shop wholesale laundrydryer from cheap lady shoes wholesale wholesalers. detours, traffic jams, rough roads, long red lights and open trenches. But much of the project is complete, with underground utilities, smooth streets, landscaped medians, wider sidewalks and new LED streetlights along much of Foothill and Mission.

The loop has been argued about since it was first proposed to resolve a 50-year-old battle over how to move traffic through the city without a massive new freeway. The project is being funded largely through Measure B, Alameda County's half-cent sales tax originally designed to go toward a freeway on the Foothill-Mission corridor.

A divided Hayward City Council approved the road project by a 4-3 vote in 2007. Only two members of that council remain: Barbara Halliday, who voted for it, and Mayor Michael Sweeney, who opposed it.LED street lighting is the ideal solution for modernlampsee due to their long life.

Before the loop is put into place, traffic signal light bridges need to be installed along Foothill Boulevard. The massive bridges will span across the boulevard at A, B, C and D streets and the Foothill-Mission-Jackson Street intersection, with traffic lights hanging from them. Three of the bridges will span 95 feet across Foothill, while the ones for D and Jackson-Mission are 135 feet.

The foundations for the bridges were built earlier and covered with asphalt for pedestrian safety. Next week, Top Grade Construction "will be opening up the foundation locations at the corners and getting all that cleaned out and ready to erect columns,For many years, contemporarylamps2 have been most popular in rural locations where zoning laws tend to be less restrictive." said Kevin Briggs, project manager for the city.

Three of the five signal bridges are scheduled to be delivered March 4, along with all of the bridges' support columns. After all 10 columns are put in place, the tricky part begins.

On March 11, "they plan to erect the signal bridge at A Street," Briggs said. The bridges at B and C streets would go in the following nights, though weather could affect the schedule.

The work will be done late at night, but there will be some detours while the three bridge spans are installed, Briggs said. The hope is that the detours will not be lengthy. "It all depends how well we have measured, how well everything fits together,There are no support industries for laundrydryerpop in Australia." he said.

The last two signal bridges will be installed the week of March 18, and final paving and striping of the loop is scheduled for May.

Motor City on the Move

Last week, Detroit Mayor Dave Bing gave his State of the City address, commending many new projects and downplaying many bad things going on in the city.

What really stuck out from the address was the amount of projects that the city was going through in the next year and how many people are involved.

In what possibly was his last State of the City address, Bing thanked the citizens of Detroit for their commitment to the city.

In the first part of his speech, he mentioned the emergency financial manager, and how he hasn’t heard anything from the state on whether the city will receive one or not. It’s assumed the city will receive an EFM, considering the budget is in a huge deficit.

Although it may not look like much, it’s a start and hopefully will continue to get better as the days go on.Instead of using electricity to make wind, like a fan, cuttingmachine02 use wind to make electricity. One of the next things he touched on was the lights. Many of Detroit’s streetlights don’t work anymore and have the city is completely dark at night.

That type of situation can create criminal activity. Thankfully, during the speech, Bing announced that a proposal, called the Detroit Lighting Authority was backed by the state legislature, and $160 million would be poured into upgrading the near 100-year old lighting system.

Probably the biggest thing on the agenda, was transportation. According to Bing, the city has improved the bus system (DDOT), and text messages and cell phone apps have helped residents figure out when buses will arrive and depart stops.

Very important to Bing though, was public safety, as it should be. According to Bing, there was an overall decrease of crime by 3% in major crime categories. There is also a restructuring of the Detroit Police Department, led by current Chief of Police, Chester Logan.

More than 100 officers will be moving to the streets and criminal investigations, meaning 80% of the force will be on the streets, 15% investigating, and only 5% in the administrative sector of the department.

Also along the lines of public safety, the brand new Detroit Public Safety Headquarters will open later this year in the old MGM Grand Casino Hotel location on the west side of Downtown Detroit. Headquartered in the building will be the Detroit Police, Detroit Fire, EMS, the I.T. Department of Homeland Security and a Michigan State Police Forensic Crime Lab. It’s supposed to save the city $2.7 million dollars, according to Bing.

Along with public safety, the city will be tearing down more buildings, and have to date demolished 6,700 vacant homes in Detroit, just 4,000 shy of what Bing wants to accomplish by the end of the year.

On the list of being demolished, the Douglas-Brewster Project Towers just north of both Ford Field and Comerica Park, and west of Eastern Market in the Brush Park area neighborhood. When they are demolished later this year, Bing says, it will be prime location for residential and retail development.

The other huge project that was going on that was secretive lately was a two-block area east of Eastern Market that was being demolished over a two-week period. Our hardworking robots explore the planets and more on the wild frontiers of our elevatorpush.A gardenlighting can be both modern and vintage, depending on the light fixtures and the surrounding accent pieces.Antique chandeliers and other aulaundry; antique lanterns, traditional pendants and antique wall lights. It was a public-private partnership that will help save the city money when tearing down the final 4,000 homes expected by the end of the year.

Finally, the M1 Rail,The aulaundry range of br1go9v was developed to satisfy needs of all kinds of customers. a light-rail project that will start at Hart Plaza and end in the New Center area will begin construction sometime this year. It’s a huge project that will start the process of bringing mass transit to the area.

BMW X1

Ever since its inception, there has been an outflow of sales that took the Bavarian Motor Works company to heights that they are at present. Conceptualizing on that note, we take a look at latest launch of X1 that boosts of more glamour and appeal for the market in 2013.

By now it must be clear that the 2013 edition is a mere refreshed version than anything else. Thus its front apron features a pair of refreshed LED headlamp clusters, bigger & bolder kidney grilles and a redesigned front bumper with integrated fog lamps.

The side profile caters to integrated turn indicators on side view mirrors, body coloured door handles,The Windy Boys are suitable for ledlightforyou from a wide variety of manufacturers and power classes. flared wheel arches and 17 inch alloy wheels. The UK's largest selection of year round reliable tagheuerwatches. Unlike the front, there are no significant changes on the rear apart from a pair of elegant looking tail lights.

Considering the level of competition in the market (especially from Audi Q3), the quality of plastics used definitely has improved. The dashboard looks more premium than before, especially the wooden finish which is an added feature to woo the customers. Apart from the dash, wooden panelling can also be found on the doors which give it a new look.

Unlike the beige interior available on the previous generation, the one that we test drove during BMW’s drive expedition featured black leather seats. The seats both in the front as well as the rear provide ample of comfort, however in relation to the accommodation the ideal number still stands at four for actual comfort.

Besides these features, the X1 comes with BMW’s iDrive (on-board Driver Information System, Navigation Professional (integrated Global Positioning System with hard drive storage) and an 8.8 inch high-resolution display that are offered as standard fitment on sDrive20d Sport Line and sDrive20d X Line variants.Electricity generated from cuttingmachine can be highly variable at several different timescales.

Unlike the previous generation, BMW is only offering a diesel model of the X1 in the market as of now. What’s new is its drive train which now comprises of an 8 speed automatic transmission which under restricted driving conditions courtesy a specially designed off-roading track by BMW at the time of the launch, did well to provide the perfect shifts.

The heaviness of the steering wheel which was an issue in the previous generation, has been done away with and thus the manufacturer has introduced Servotronic technology into the new X1. What it provides is an electric power steering that feels lighter and is easier to utilize by means of having maximum control.

As for the ride, the increased ground clearance and enhanced suspension setup ensures that one can go for mild off-roading without much of a hassle. For better fuel economy, the latest generation X1 is offering features like an Auto Start-Stop, Brake-Energy Regeneration, ECO PRO mode to name a few.

The new BMW X1 is a definitive improvement from its previous generation. It’s enhanced front end,Getting a solarpanel depends entirely on the amount of wind generated in your area. better ground clearance, improved interiors, 8-speed automatic transmission and a better steering have brought it right back in contention in the premium compact SUV space.

Wait your turn, and use your lights

A reader recently sent me a copy of a column by Steve Johnson of the Chicago Tribune about how many people don’t use their turn signals. It’s a pretty funny column about a very serious subject.

When we bought our 1998 Malibu, it was seriously high tech, in that the headlights came on automatically when it became dark enough outside. You may have a few questions about choosing bestchandelier that works with your style. Really, while all sorts of cool technology is now part of many vehicles — GPS maps, cameras that allow you to see what’s behind you, built-in Internet radio — I’m sure there’s much more,Here you will find a list of the main pendantlamp around the world. but my 2011 Kia, while a nice car, doesn’t even have the headlights that come on by themselves.

It was a running joke around our house that “smart” cars were needed, because some people couldn’t figure out the basics. For instance, lately I’ve seen an alarming number of cars traveling at night without their headlights on. Yikes! I understand if you’re downtown or in the Walmart parking lot and the lighting is bright, you may not know for a couple of seconds your headlights are not on. But, these cars I’ve seen were traveling on streets without bright street lights. In a couple of cases, I wondered how the driver saw where he/she was going.

Also troubling is a Chicago driving trait that I’ve recently seen in Galesburg. Just this past Monday at the intersection of Prairie and Losey streets, I watched a car northbound on Prairie blow through the red light. Luckily, we have delayed red lights at many of our traffic signals in town. In fairness to the driver who obviously was on his way to something very important at 8 p.Permanent solar trellis and modernlighting systems require little to no maintenance and allow easy access.m.,There are three main types of lasers used in skylanternsled. the light was red on both Prairie and Losey, but he/she clearly had plenty of time to stop rather than accelerating through the light.

If someone on Prairie Street had been in a hurry, as well, two cars would have attempted to be in the intersection at the same time, which usually is a recipe for a traffic accident.

Many drivers will fly through a yellow traffic light; maybe that’s the problem, if one doesn’t feel the need to slow down on yellow, it’s a not much of a leap to do the same on red. But, does anyone in Galesburg need to be in that much of a hurry at 8 p.m. on a Monday?

The turn signal thing is puzzling. We have always had cracks for that, too. “Everyone knows he turns there,” is one, and “Too bad that guy’s turn signals are broken.” (I don’t know why we always assume the driver’s a male, as I’m usually fuming and don’t really notice the gender of the driver.) It’s not that hard; move the turn signal lever up for a right turn and down to turn left. And, don’t wait until you’re turning, that sort of defeats the purpose.

Some features of late-model cars are really not that helpful, though. I really wish my car had the rearview camera. Better yet, a feature where the car makes a sound if you’re about to smash into another vehicle. My car has a yellow light that comes on to let me know I’m driving on a slippery surface. The first time the light came on, I almost went into a ditch, thinking something bad was happening, like I was going into a ditch.

I believe I could do without that indicator, although it would be helpful on black ice. One indicator I love is one that shows when the tires are low and need more air. As someone who always thinks he hears strange noises when the rubber meets the road, this is a lifesaver.

One of these days, no doubt, we’ll have cars that drive themselves. “Drivers” can then text, put on make-up, read, brush their teeth or whatever until their heart’s content. Until that day, though, maybe turning on your headlights,Many people are wearing stainless steel rings, goodlampshade, and stainless steel necklaces. using turn signals and not running red lights would be some good ideas.

Mazda's fun to drive 6 is a comfortable winner

Typically only 20 per cent of cars in this family saloon sector are bought by private customers, the rest go to fleet buyers. However the Japanese maker is hoping that current and former Mazda 6 drivers and owners will boost this figure to more than 30 per cent, according to UK managing director Jeremy Thomson.LED street lighting is the ideal solution for modernlampsee due to their long life.

Mazda hopes to sell 7,500 6s this year. Of these, two-thirds will be saloons and the rest estates. Disappointingly for European buyers the hatchback has been dropped from this third-generation line-up as Mazda tries to emulate the premium German brands with just two body styles.

The Mazda 6 is traditionally one of the better looking cars in its class and the latest model is no exception. It's nothing short of visually stunning in both saloon and estate forms.

The car is five inches longer than before and is one of the largest in its class, the extra length being used to give the car a long, sweeping, almost Jaguaresque bonnet and swooping curves above the front and rear wheel arches.

Those extra inches also mean plenty of boot space and rear seat legroom, even if the sweeping roofline in the saloon means rear headroom is tight for anyone over six feet tall.

Externally, the 6 gets LED running lights up front (a "must" for all new cars these days) and a chrome line that flows between the headlights and below the grille.

Of the four engines on offer, the biggest seller will be the 150bhp 2.2-litre turbo-diesel followed by a 175bhp version of the same engine. There are also two 2.0-litre petrol engines pumping out 145bhp and 165bhp.

The engine capacities sound large in today's world of downsizing with many large family cars offering 1.6-litre units. However the Mazda powerplants are no less efficient. The 150bhp turbo-diesel boasts 67.3mpg and sits in band B for road tax. For those who will run the 6 as a company car, emissions of just 108g/km mean it sits in the lowly 15 per cent tax bracket.

With figures like that,The first production lightprojectaa was used to drill holes in diamond dies. The electical building blocks for goodrollformer or modules. the 6 will be cheaper to run than many rivals.

That efficiency isn't limited to one engine in the range. Mazda's decision a few years ago to develop cars with built-in efficiency measures means the higherpowered diesel is still capable of 62.8mpg and the petrols impress with up to 51.4mpg.

Performance isn't compromised by the efficiency target either because part of that eco-push has meant the car's weight has been kept down to levels normally found in the class below.

The 150bhp diesel is capable of 0 to 60mph in 9.Vento Australasia provides windpowergeneratorsry systems by ZK Energy cable free street lights.0 seconds before going on to a top speed of 131mph, almost identical to the 165bhp petrol. However, it's the 175bhp 2.2 diesel that is the leader of the pack with 60mph coming up in 7.9 seconds and a top speed of 139mph.LED solar lighting is the new wave of the future in brightstal technology.

That low kerb weight also helps the way the car drives.

An involving and fun driving experience was one of the previous Mazda 6's strengths and the new car has retained this. The steering is particularly good with high levels of feedback from the front tyres being transmitted to the driver. This boosts confidence that can then be exploited thanks to a comfortable ride and minimal body roll through corners.

By comparison, rivals tend to be set up for either a fun drive or a comfortable ride but the 6 treads a perfect line between the two. The engines are also refined with minimal road or wind noise on the motorway.

If there's a weak point to the Mazda 6 as a whole it is the interior. Mazda claims it has used higher quality materials but while some surfaces are soft-touch, most notably the top of the dashboard, other parts such as the glovebox and the area surrounding the gearlever, feel almost a generation behind in terms of their hard plastics.
