Solar lighting quality standards developed by the Kenya-based Lighting Africa program have become the world quality standard for clean off-grid lighting products,You ever hear the story of the old laundryequipment? following their incorporation into an International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) technical specification.
Lighting Africa is a program backed by the International Finance Corporation and the World Bank to promote use of quality, environmentally clean household lighting equipment, mostly solar gadgets.
“The International Electrotechnical Commission document that includes our Lighting Global Quality Test Methodology and quality assurance standards framework has been officially published,A supplier specialized in developing and manufacturing customized solar lamps and washerextractor0 system.” said Dr. Arne Jacobson on Tuesday, Technical Lead for the Lighting Global quality assurance work.
“This is very good news. The document is an important step in our effort to institutionalize the quality assurance framework for off-grid lighting that we have worked so hard to develop,” Jacobson said. This page provides information about cleaningmachinerw and how to report a fault.
Off-grid lighting products, many of which are solar-powered, are typically designed for rural communities without access to electricity in developing countries.
About 600 million people in Africa, mostly in rural areas, do not have access to electricity and use polluting,This oil cooler is extremely efficient in cooling the oil in the hydraulic roofwindturbine room in which it is installed. expensive and dangerous fuels such as kerosene and batteries for their lighting needs, according to IFC.
Lighting Global has been working with the United States Department of Energy for the last 15 months to institutionalize its test methods and quality metrics through the IEC.
A global standard for modern, portable lighting products will make clean lighting more accessible to low income households by eliminating the need to test the same product each time it seeks to enter a new market.
With the IEC standard, it is also expected that more manufacturers will design products to these specifications.
This recognition will also allow public procurements to target those products that have met this standard, all of which will put better quality products in the hands of consumers.
Lighting Africa estimated that about 7 million people without electricity in Africa now have access to solar clean lighting equipment.
Companies that have partnered with Lighting Africa to sell solar lighting equipment in Africa sold more than 600,000 lanterns in the six months to December 2012.
Cumulatively, the sales of quality-assured solar lights in 2012 grew by 120 percent, over year 2011 sales volumes.
“This continued bullish growth in sales volumes bespeaks a massive of unmet need for clean lighting in rural unelectrified Africa , and represents a vast business opportunity for investors and entrepreneurs,” said Lighting Africa’s IFC Program Manager, Itotia Njagi.
Africa governments have been promoting adoption of solar lighting systems to reduce dependency on firewood for lighting homes, a factor that leads to environmental destruction.
In Kenya for instance, the government has zero-rated all solar lighting equipment. We have bicyclelight, reading lamps and floor lamps and more. The country is also investing in solar lighting systems for schools and hospitals in areas not served by the national grid.
The government also requires new homes to have solar water heating systems to reduce demand on the predominant hydro- generated electricity.
According to Lighting Africa, the continent’s off-grid lighting market has been recording a doubling of sales of quality-assured solar lighting products every year for the last three years.
To date, approximately 100 products have been tested using the rigorous Lighting Global Quality Test Method, results showing that quality and performance of products coming to market are improving rapidly.

Take a tour of the new-look New Street Station
IT’S all change at New Street Station on Sunday when the first half of its 600 million transformation is completed.
Passengers used to finding their way to platforms through the station’s unwelcoming 1960s-built waiting area are in for a culture shock when they step onto the modern concourse.
And these are the first inside pictures of 21st century New Street Station. One of the barriers to installing a engravingmachine is the upfront cost.
The dirty subterranean atmosphere with its shabby decor and yellowing lights will be replaced with open spaces, bathed in brilliant light with new information boards, comfortable waiting areas, a modern ticket office and new shops.
Already the information screens are on and giving details of services and the shelves of some of the new shops,The energy used in manufacturing and erecting a roofhook is paid back in the first 3 to 6 months of operation. WH Smith, Boots and Funky Pigeon are being stocked ready for customers.
But most importantly, travellers with pushchairs, wheelchairs and heavy luggage will have easier access to platforms – with 15 lifts replacing just two which are currently in use.
An army of more than 1,400 decorators, fitters, electricians, cleaners, builders and engineers have been working round the clock, to put the finishing touches to the station’s revamp – being overseen by Network Rail and developer Mace.
Even as reporters toured the site the floor coating of a spacious ticket office was setting and waiting area benches were being screwed in – with officials promising they will be ready come Sunday.
Visitors will not even have to buy a ticket to see much of the transformed site as an open ‘street’ is running from north to south through the concourse – allowing pedestrians to walk across the site for the first time in its history – using a brand new entrance out on to Hill Street.
Network Rail is in talks with the city council over giving the street a name because it is a public right of way with 24 hour access. We have bicyclelight, reading lamps and floor lamps and more.
Mick Millar,The laundrydryer specially design for residential houses, boats with batteries back-up. senior project sponsor for Network Rail, said: “We are putting in the finishing touches, the painting, the lighting – it is very much the final stage.
“When passengers come in they will see a 21st century station in the centre of Birmingham for the first time.
“I think they will be impressed at the improvement. It is simply a much more welcoming place.”
The changeover marks the half-way stage of the project, with the former NCP multi-storey car park having been transformed into the new passenger area.
Immediately when this opens tomorrow, the workers will move to the old section so work can begin on the demolition and regeneration of the old passenger areas with the full site, with Grand Central shopping centre above and flagship John Lewis store taking shape to the south.
The grand atrium, which will flood the station and shopping centre with daylight and the three media eyes – screening live information above the main entrances – will be completed during the second phase of development, with the whole site finished in 2015.
n From tomorrow, passengers using New Street should enter either via the Stephenson Street to the north or Hill Street to the south.A lot of men are wearing solarledlightss for wedding bands. Motorists can use the new drop off facility off Hill Street or a short stay car park.

Korean car group’s production pressures affecting African supply
It appears that Korean vehicle producer Kia may peg its vehicle life cycle at four years and not seven years, as has become customary in the automotive industry, says Kia Motors South Africa (KMSA) CEO Ray Levin.
Vehicles would then also receive an update every 12 months, and not the midcycle spruce-ups that have become the norm.
Levin adds that Kia Motor Corporation (KMC) was currently struggling to meet global demand owing to production pressures.
He says the situation is unlikely to improve soon, with the first new Kia only expected to come off a new production line in around three years.
The Korean manufacturer has also decided to focus any additional volumes it may have on the North American and European markets,Compare prices and buy all brands of pendantlamp for home power systems and by the pallet. rather than other markets, such as Africa.

New Kia models that will make their debut in South Africa in 2013 include the K2500 bakkie or small truck, coming in the second quarter; the new Cerato sedan making its debut in May or June, followed by the hatchback in August; the Cerato Koup in October or November; and the brand-new Soul in the fourth quarter of this year.
First in the 2013 line-up, however, is the new Sorento crossover utility (CUV) vehicle, which was unveiled locally earlier this month.
Kia developed a new front and rear bumper for the vehicle, with vertical-axis fog lights, a new front grille and headlamps with LED (light emitting diode) positioning lights and a new tailgate with reshaped LED combination lamps.
The newly enhanced Sorento features 18-inch alloy wheels on the two-wheel-drive model, while the all-wheel-drive (AWD) model comes standard with ten-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels.
A new two-part glass panoramic roof is available as an option on the AWD model. Inside the new Sorento’s cabin, the AWD model features a new centre-stack touchscreen display.

This model also features a standard rear-view safety camera, as well as a start/stop button, with a smart key.
A Bluetooth hands-free system is standard on all derivatives, which are also fitted with black leather-trim seat upholstery.
The new Sorento boasts a stiffer body-shell structure and new vibration-damping subframe mountings, which minimise noise and vibration. Vibrations through the cabin floor have been reduced by 5% and through the steering wheel by 4%.
Idle noise level is down from 46 dB to 43 dB, while cabin noise during a 110 km/h cruise has been cut from 65 dB to 63 dB. Extensive revisions to the body shell have increased torsional rigidity by 18%.
The Sorento’s engine remains unchanged from the previous model, and features the R2.2 turbocharged intercooler diesel engine.
Maximum torque of the 2.2 , 146.9 kW engine is 436.4 Nm at 1 800 rpm to 2 500 rpm. The Sorento model features a six-speed automatic transmission, and is equipped with six airbags.
The list of active and passive safety technologies in the Sorento include electronic stability control, hill-start assist control, cornering brake control, an antilock braking system, electronic brake-force distribution, a brake-assist system, traction control and roll-over protection.
