A shopping wonderland or a dystopian nightmare?

For anyone new to Aberdeen, the inShops Market is a source of intrigue and wonder. For the 36,000 people who visit the stores every week, it provides an alternative experience to mainstream retail.

Owner Xin Yong Li said: "Some people like to come for the herbal Viagra, it is much better than the ones from the doctor. 

"Men come here and want to take it straight away but I have to tell them to go home to take it, they think they can take it and then have a massage. I don’t want to see that here. 

"The Chinese traditional massage is the thing that most people want when they come here. These days people are more stressed and you can feel it in their necks. 

"I make the shop look inviting but sometimes I think people just come in to talk to me and see my smiles."

Mounted on the wall at the back of the unit, Steve Vai and Yngwie Malmsteen signature guitars take pride of place. "This is where I get my real kicks," says Ted as he relays the excitement of custom builds. 

He adds: "We can do pretty much anything to your guitar.
